Pp Brothers O'brien The Law Of Violence William W Johnstone 9780786031122 Books

Somewhat disappointing entry in a, to this point, fine series. Part of it may be bad marketing. The back cover intimates that the O'Brien family goes to war over Doc Holliday. A guest at Dromore and under their protection, a bereaved father demands he be turned over to be hung. Honor precludes Shamus O'Brien from not protecting a guest even though he doesn't personally like the man.

It was self defense on Holliday's part and he only wants to get to the sanitarium where he will die of consumption. The father swears war will break out if he doesn't get Holliday.

It never happens. Last minute changes must have been made in the manuscript that didn't get to the cover people. In the narrative, the father is Colonel James Stuart, an Irishman that served in the Confederate army just as Shamus O'Brien did. But the back cover says his name is Colonel Robert NcHenry.

The main plot is an Aberdeen bull named Bonnie Prince Charlie gifted to Shamus by Queen Elizabeth. He sends Luther Ironside and one of his sons, Shawn, to pick the bull up. It gets stolen and the pair set out to find it with the Englishman sent to deliver it and his daughter.

Shawn gets badly wounded and the hunt stops. The bull is never found, dying of neglect by the thieves, not willing to lower themselves to cowboy work. Johnny Sligo and Black Tom Church are the two gun men and Jacob is left to deal with Sligo. But even there a little Jewish peddler, who has popped in and out of the story, saves the day.

The worst entry in this fine series.

Pp Brothers O'brien The Law Of Violence William W Johnstone 9780786031122 Books Reviews

I have read the O'Brien Series and loved them. The book was delivered as advertised.
This is a good series, I like the Brothers O'Brien, a tough family you won't pull anything over on them.

The other reviews states it as disappointing? I don't think so, you could give that term to any western if you wanted to because they pretty much all have the same theme.

I didn't quite go along with the fact that Doc Holliday just happened to land at their ranch and caused the trouble but it was a good story and I liked it, there is always going to be 'bad guys' and they'll be the worst of the lot but that is just the way a western story survives.
I like books by William W, Johnstone
I received the item in a timely manner. Really enjoyed the book.
I rated this book as 5 star because it came when expected; was in good condition; and was reasonably priced. I love being able to get the books (in the "series") I am reading in a timely fashion - at exceptional prices. I have been ordering from for years!! Thank you for getting the books I want and need. -)
I am still reading the book. I enjoy the Brother O'briens series. I am a female and I enjoy reading westerns.
Very Good!
